VICTORY FOR THE DESMOND HOTEL WORKERS!
Over the weekend our Brothers & Sisters at The Desmond Hotel, represented by New York Hotel Trades Council, Local 6, voted 78-0 in favor of ratifying the new contract after months of tense negotiations.
The contract addresses the lack of job security and stark imbalance of power between management and the union that existed under the old contract, which had been negotiated by another union and expired in 2010. The new contract is in effect immediately and will be retroactive to September 10, 2011.
The boycott campaign, which had been severely impacting business since it was launched in June, has been terminated and the Union is proud to invite all of its allies to return to the renowned service and hospitality of The Desmond Hotel Albany.
This resounding victory for Organized Labor would not have been possible without the incredible show of Solidarity from all of our Local Unions, and on behalf of both Local 6 and the Capital District Area Labor Federation we want to express our immense gratitude.
